National Reconcilation Prayer
God of this ancient land, you call us to be people of Reconciliation. Give us the courage to build bridges that will take us forward. Bring us to a future where all can live in understanding and appreciation. Through your Son, Jesus, who is the Way of love and forgiveness. Amen.
Sacraments - 2025
Dates are currently being approved by Fr Carl for the Sacraments of Reconciliation (Year 2) and First Holy Communion (Year 3). Bishop Michael McKenna will preside over the Sacrament of Confirmation in Yeoval at Our Lady Catholic Church at 10:00 am on Sunday, 26th October.
It is an expectation from Fr Carl that families attend weekend Mass in either Yeoval or Wellington six weeks leading up to the Sacrament.
We look forward to walking this journey of faith with you and your family.
School Feast Day - 10th June

The School will be celebrating the Feast of our patron, St Columba. on Tuesday, 10th June.
We invite our community to Mass at 10:00 am at Our Lady Church and back to the school for tea and coffee. In tradition, the children will also enjoy a celebratory cake after Mass.

Diocesan Spelling Bee
Congratulations to Annabelle, Jack, Will, and Lucy, who proudly represented St Columba’s School at this year’s Diocese Spelling Bee Competition. The event brought together talented spellers from across the diocese. The students demonstrated exceptional vocabulary, spelling, and composure in the face of pressure. Our team approached the competition with determination and school spirit. All four students were fantastic ambassadors for St Columba’s, displaying their academic skills.

CWA Public Speaking 2025
Congratulations to the students who were selected from their grade to represent St Columba’s at the recent CWA Public Speaking Central Western Competition for Schools. Annabelle, Georgia, Will and Lucy each wrote and presented their speech to the school and were selected to compete at the next level. They have been practising hard in preparation for showcasing their entertaining and polished presentations.
As part of the English syllabus, the Oral Language and Communication outcomes include content to build understanding and skills around Interacting, Listening for Understanding and Presenting. Oral presentations, such as the CWA speech, form one portion of the content for this English outcome.
Stage 2 (Year 3 & 4) - communicates with familiar audiences for social and learning purposes, by interacting, understanding and presenting.
- Plan and deliver spoken presentations using language and structure to suit purpose and audience
Stage 3 (Year 5 & 6) - communicates to wide audiences with social and cultural awareness, by interacting and presenting, and by analysing and evaluating for understanding.
- Deliver presentations suited to purpose and audience
- Experiment with volume, pace and intonation to enhance meaning when presenting and reciting, and recognise the effects these have on audience understanding

Yeoval Show
What a wonderful Yeoval Show day.
Thank you to the St Columba’s P&F for running their morning tea stand, and to the school staff who went along to the show and helped at the stand too.
Thank you, and well done to the Yeoval Show Society for all their hard work in putting on what was a great show!

Mothers Day - Resin Cups with Mrs Gordon

STUDENTS TURN SCIENCE INTO MOTHER’S DAY GIFTS!
This Mother’s Day, our St Columba’s mums were treated to beautiful, handcrafted resin-poured travel mugs made by all students from Kindergarten to Year 6.
With Mrs Gordon’s creative guidance, students explored the art of resin pouring. This exciting activity supported our Primary Science unit on states of matter by helping students see how materials can change from a liquid to a solid through a chemical reaction.
Students mixed liquid resin with a hardener and their pigments of choice and then poured it onto spinning mugs to create smooth, even coats. After 24 hours of drying, their beautiful creations were complete!
A big thank you to Mrs Gordon for providing such a fun experience for our students!

Variety Bash
Students from St Columba’s had the opportunity to visit the 2025 Variety Bash as it stopped in Yeoval. The Variety Bash is Australia’s largest and longest-running charity motoring event, raising funds to support children who are sick, disadvantaged, or living with a disability. During the visit, students were able to meet participants, explore the uniquely decorated vehicles, and learn about the important work Variety – the Children’s Charity does to improve the lives of young Australians. The event offered valuable lessons in community service, fundraising, and social responsibility.

Annual School Improvement Surveys
Thank you to all of the parents who took the time to complete the Annual School Improvement Survey that was sent out at the beginning of May. In addition to parent feedback, students and staff were allowed to provide their views on the various aspects of life at St Columba's Primary School. Once we receive the results of this survey, a summary of the data gathered will be shared with families.
